(Standalone but is a Sequel/Companion Novel to Captured Lies)

You so callously throw my love back in my face and vanish without a trace...
A chill invaded Tarin's core. Stephen had changed tactics again. That wasn't surprising but he'd never used the 'L' word before. He'd even skipped it in his vows, rather than 'love, honor and cherish', he'd said 'I'll cherish & honor you'. She'd been too busy saving her own skin and so thankful to him for wanting to be with her she'd overlooked it.
I've hired a private investigator.
Now she had to step things up.
What she was planning was not smart but she really didn't know what else to do. She'd just earned their trust and was now throwing it out the window. The thought of Stephen finding her though was keeping her from sleeping and she felt she was developing a nervous tick - looking over her shoulder every five minutes. He'd take Chance from her just to bend her to his will, she was sure of that. She felt caught in this vortex of needing to find answers, to resolve some issues in her life and just for once basking in living a normal, carefree life. She'd actually had many moments of feeling like she was normal, living a normal life - raising a son, going to work, paying bills, just all the usual stuff. But then Stephen kept reminding her that hers was anything but normal.
She had to quit lying to herself that everything would just fade away, she really didn't have to do anything. Certainly not break the confidence of others that she'd just gained. She had to be sure that she could be free of Stephen legally. Unfortunately she had no idea if she could or not. That week that she'd lost kept her mired in a thick, swamp of gloom and of monsters in the dark. Until she knew what happened, until she was sure that Stephen had no part in it, until she knew who was responsible, she would never be free.
She didn't really know what to do but it was all making her feel like the acid roiling in her stomach was her new best friend. In truth, she realized it was the game she was playing, the lies she was telling, really more the omissions, that was causing her so much grief. They were so good to her at work and she felt like she was selling them out. If she believed in luck she would hope that she was lucky enough for them to never find out but since that wasn't a part of her life, she just hoped they didn't find out until she was long gone.
Some spoils are inevitable in business, Tarin. Get used to it. Her dad's words echoed in her head. That was how he operated but not how she had ever thought she would. What scared her was maybe she was more like him then she wanted to be. Sighing, she brushed her fingers over her son's wispy hair. It was so soft, so comforting. It reminded her of how life was supposed to be. What she was working so hard for, to make sure it was easier for him. He made the slightest of cooing sounds as he slept. It was a good sign he was out for the night. She kissed him and then crept out of his room. She stopped long enough to talk to Kim, Bobbie's teenage niece, who was now her step-daughter and who was going to babysit, while she was out.

Omg did I just read that? I have never picked up a book that had so many twists and turns to it that I found myself stopping from time to time to take a second to gather my thoughts on what I had just read.
This book made me cry and cringe at some of the things that are brought up, but bored and uninterested were never a problem with this one.
Tarin suffered at the hands of a mad man and lost part of her memory and finds herself running for not only her life but the life of her son, Chance. As she forges ahead in the road to survival she takes a job assisting fighting cyber crimes she finds herself attracted to her wickedly sexy boss.
He finds her distracting and can't seem to get her off his mind, and though he wants to trust her, something just doesn't add up about her. That doesn't stop him from falling for her whole heartedly.
This book will have you hooked until the final page and when it's over you'll feel sad because you wish you didn't know what happened so you could start it again.
This author has a great career ahead of her, I need to read her other books. Solid 5 star read!
