Release Blitz #review: Playing It Cool by Amy Andrews

Blurb

Score one for the curvy girls!

Harper Nugent might have a little extra junk in her trunk, but her stepbrother calling her out on it is the last straw... When rugby hottie, Dexter Blake, witnesses the insult, he surprises Harper by asking her out. In front of her dumbass brother. Score! Of course, she knows it's not for reals, but Dex won't take no for an answer.

Dexter Blake's life revolves around rugby with one hard and fast rule: no women. Sure, his left hand is getting a workout, but he's focused on his career for now. Then he overhears an asshat reporter belittle the curvy chick he'd been secretly ogling. What's a guy to do but ask her out? It's just a little revenge against a poser, and then he'll get his head back in the game.

But the date is better than either expected. So is the next one. And the next. And the heat between them...sizzles their clothes right off.

Suddenly, this fake relationship is feeling all too real…

Review

What a fantastic read this was. The fact that the heroine wasn't your typical girl with "perfect" body just added to the allure of the story.
Harper is a beautiful girl who is belittle by her stepmom and stepbrother for being a curvy goddess. One of those occasions when her brother is putting her down, is overheard by one of the rugby players her brother is there to interview. That's when the handsome rugby player decides to show her brother how wrong he is about his sister.
Dex had a rough childhood, his career has been his escape from poverty, but it has also preventing him from giving himself the chance to start building a future with a wife and kids down the line. The moment he meets Harper and starts to really know her, lines are blurred and he starts realizing little by little that maybe there is time in his life for more than rugby, but there is always a feeling of dread that prevents him from being completely honest with himself.
I loved these two characters. Dexter is definitely one smoking BBF, his attraction for Harper is felt from the very beginning, he treats her with respect, he makes her feel beautiful, sensual, sexy. Harper is definitely into Dex but with so much negativity about the way she looks, courtesy of her family, she doesn't believe that a man like him could be attracted to her. But crazy attracted he is and their chemistry is palpable from the moment they meet.
While Harper teaches Dex that there is more to life than his career, he shows her that there is more to her than looks and the way her family perceives her.
This is my first book by this author and it won't be the last. I really enjoyed the way she told the story and how she showed the characters' flaws making them more relatable to the reader.
