Let's start with one of the things I loved the most about this book, Jake, Jake, Jake.
From the moment we meet Jake Sharp we can feel he's a haunted man. A man who doesn't fully know how to deal with the ghosts from his past. And ex-military, who's life is lead by a distraction that changed his life. Now he works as a bodyguard who's main objective is to protect high profile figures. And Jake's next assignment has the power to turn his life upside down once again.
Camille Logan, is perceived to the outside world as a lose cannon thanks to a few mistakes from her past. This is the woman Jake thinks he'll be protecting, a spoiled heiress who cares more about her appearance and partying than anything else. In reality, Camille is an intelligent, well educated and beautiful woman who is dying to cut the ties her father has put around her and start living the way she seems fit. Although there is lust and a strong attraction between Jake and Camille their relationship progresses slow, a sensual dance that becomes passionate as time goes by.
As the story develops, we see a man who is fighting to see the light at the end of the tunnel and that light, in Jake's case, has a name and comes wrapped in beautiful package he can't stay away from.
I was enthralled by the way the author developed both characters, there are so many layers to both of them, and it was a delight to see each one of them peel each one of those layers until we got to the core of who they were as human beings. I saw a few little traces of Jesse from the This Man trilogy in Jake, but overall Jake was a more complex character in his entirety.
This was a well thought, put together story who had a bit of everything for everyone, action, mystery, romance and definitely some very tender moments.
