1. How do you come up with a title and character names?
I’m not quite sure on the titles. Sometimes they just pop in
my head, other times a certain line I write resonates and I tweak it/parts of
it into a title.
Character names are born in a variety of ways, but most
often it’s the last or middle name of someone I know. My first character Laney,
is based on my Aunt Elaine, also my middle name… that type of process.
2. Where do you get your inspiration when it comes to
storylines?
Life. For example, Emerge is based loosely on my oldest
daughter and the tragic loss of two wonderful young men who blessed her life,
one of whom we lost to a motor vehicle accident.
Pretty Instinct was inspired by my grandson who has TSC and
his amazing big sister who protects him with a maturity and compassion well
beyond her 5 years of age.
3. What topics you would not write about, what topic you
would like to write about that you haven't yet?
I don’t think I could write a rape scene, which I have no
desire to do, nor do I foresee myself ever writing blatant cheating.
I have yet to write about… what I’ll be writing about after
Endure. LOL. I know. Cop-out answer, but I don’t want to give anything away.
4. How do you handle negative feedback (reviews)? Do you
ever want to write back to that person, what stops you?
I handle negative reviews by phoning a friend and not
letting them hang up until I feel better. Or they have to go make dinner, give
kids a bath, etc. Of course there are times I want to write back, never really
on their personal opinions to which they’re entitled… and I did “put myself out
there” for, but it is very tempting to correct factual mistakes. Like, say for
instance, when you’re advised to apologize to the wrong football team in
a review on the wrong book. That’s when I call the friend back and tell
her to pop in a frozen pizza and a lil’ dirt never hurt a kid!
5. If you had to choose, what writer would you consider an
inspiration/mentor?
If I had to choose one, it’s Angela Graham. We’ve been each
other’s critique partners since day one, before either of us had a single book
out and have helped each other brainstorm, beta-read, and first round line edit
through every single one. We’re at three years now and I couldn’t do it without
her.
6. How do you get your books to the general public, how difficult is it to market your work and have it recognized?
Marketing and promo is its own full-time job. Luckily I am
blessed with an amazing assistant, a phenomenal street team, an unbelievably
supportive reader base and many kind, wonderful author friends and colleagues
who all help me get the word out.

A cheese quesadilla. Just melt cheese in between two flour
tortillas then glob on way too much sour cream and chopped black olives.
2. What do you do to relax when you're not writing?
Read.
3. What is the biggest lie you've ever told?
When I was about 17, a cop pulled me and my friends over in
my car for reckless driving. (Way over the speed limit and switched lanes
without a blinker.) When I got home, my family already knew and had put my
uncle in charge of interrogation. I told him I was driving. Took him about
twenty minutes to trick me into confessing I wasn’t, a guy without a license
was. Tricky Uncle Bruce the Moose!
4. Where is one place you want to visit that you haven't been before?
Some cozy cabin, with full amenities, in BFE, Montana.
5. If you had a superpower, what would it be?
If I got to choose the super power, I’d pick rewinding time.
I don’t know if that’s an “official” super power, but it damn sure should be.
