Release Day #review: Sustained by Emma Chase

The Legal Briefs #2

Synopsis

A knight in tarnished armor is still a knight.

When you’re a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be, and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I, Jake Becker, have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating—and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.

Complications don’t work for me—I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will turn you on. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming—and I don’t pretend to be.

Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I'm going to Mommy & Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room, and arguing cases in the principal's office.

Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, defend her…and the kids.

And that — that, I know how to do.

Review

What do you get when you mix a cocky, womanizer Adonis, a devoted sister and aunt, and six precious and precocious children? You get Emma Chase's best book to date.

Jake Becker has his life figured it out, he's a respected criminal defense attorney who's in control in the courtroom, and a bad boy in the bedroom. He has his rules and it's his way, or no way at all.
Then Chelsea McQuaid comes into his life with her six nieces and nephews and life as Jake knew it will never be the same.
Incredibly well crafted characters will pull at your heartstrings.
You will love Mr. sexy attorney and his wicked ways with women, but when he starts interacting with the kids, his honesty and kindness towards them and the way he protects them will make your ovaries explode.

"Riley, boys your age....are really not worth your time. They're selfish and stupid. It's not their fault; they're just programmed that way- but they're still a lost cause. I think you should stay away from all of them until you're at least...twenty-five. Or...have you considered being a lesbian?"

Chelsea is an intelligent, sweet and caring woman who left her life behind to become the guardian of her nieces and nephews, her devotion to them will melt your heart. The children, who range from a baby to a teenager, are just perfection, the author captured their personalities according to their age to a T, and although you can feel the sadness their parents death left behind, the story doesn't focus on that.
Jake and Chelsea's relationship doesn't happen overnight, is slow building and it's beautiful to see how this so called womanizer changes his ways for her and the kids. Neither one of them is perfect, they both make mistakes throughout their journey, but that's the beauty of these two, add to that their banter and definite chemistry and you have a smoking hot story.

“You deserve a man who knows what the right thing is, and who does it. I want…Christ I want to be that for you.”

This tale will bring an array of emotions on the reader, serious issues are mixed with humor, making the story believable, more "human."
Emma Chase is without a doubt the queen of the male POV, specially the humorous male POV, and Sustained just confirms this one more time.

"You have really big hands."

"And?"

"And...I was just thinking...
what the say about guys with big hands is definitely...true."

"I've heard similar compliments before. What can I say?
When God was passing out dick, he gave me extra.

I'm in love with this story and its characters, if you thought you loved Drew from the Tangled series, you haven't seen nothing yet.
Highly recommended, get your copy TODAY!!!
