At age twenty-one, the timid and shy Maddie is content to live within the confines of her new homesafe from the outside world, safe from harm and, strangely, protected by the Hangmens most volatile member; the heavily pierced and tattooed, Flame.

Flame.

The man who ceaselessly watches over her with his midnight dark and searing eyes. The man who protects her with a breath-taking intensity. And the man who stirs something deep within her numbed heart.

But when circumstances conspire for Flame to need HER help, Maddie bravely risks it all for the broken man who has captivated her fragile soul.

The Hangmens most infamous member, Flame, is ruled by one thinganger. Plagued by haunting demons from his past, an all-consuming rage, and isolated by an abhorrent hatred of being touched, Flame's days are filled with suffocating darkness, pierced only by a single ray of lightMaddie. The shy, beautiful woman he cannot purge from his thoughts. The woman he has an overwhelming need to possess
... the only person who has ever been able to touch him.

Flames mission in life is to protect Maddie, to keep her safe. Until a trigger from his troubled past sends him spiraling into madness, trapping him in the deepest recesses of his disturbed mind.

His Hangmen brothers fear that Flame is beyond saving.

His only hope of salvation: Maddie and her healing light.

Review
I am a huge Tillie Cole fan, and after reading my precious Flame, I'm certain no other author could have pulled off what she did when she wrote this book. Totally amazing!
Flame is a character that we've seen on the two previous books, and he is not like other people.
He cuts himself when he is upset, always up for a fight, he has no problem with violence. Due to circumstances from his past, he can't stand to be touched, but then a precious angel comes into his life and he finds that her touch, and only her touch, can change all that happened before.

Maddie is still trying to adjust to the outside world, she finds most things frightening, and she learns each day that the things taught to her are very different from reality. What she does know, is the dark eyed Flame is the one who set her free from the torture she had been enduring, and even though he intimidates her, it's not in a bad way. She wants Flame to talk to her, and although she knows that they could never have a relationship, she turns to her drawings to bring to life the way she wants her own life to be.

The relationship between Flame and his Maddie and the confrontation of the torture that both of them went through in life, had me feeling every emotion under the sun; it made me nauseated at times how a person could treat another human being that way. The depiction of these times are so exquisitely written that you find yourself being in that room when it is happening, all you want to do is reach out and hold these two people and assure them they will be ok.
The way these two react to each other is titillating, exciting, as it is really a first for both of them. The gentle way they react to each other is so new and refreshing that it took my breath away, they were  two halves of a whole and without one the other would be well and truly lost.

Although we do have some intimate moments in this book they are not overly done. They were tastefully written and they fit these two perfectly. We find a few surprises in this book, some that made me mentally exhausted and some that gave me puffy eyes from all the crying I did.
This is by far the best book she has ever written and I don't say that lightly as I have been a fan of all her series, this one is the absolute best. She did a great job keeping the flow of the story and giving each important scene the attention it required, this is what makes her an amazing writer in my opinion.

Not enough stars to rate this book, so I will say 5 stars to infinity and beyond.
Tillie Cole I wanna be you when I grow up, babe, and if I could only be just an eighth of the author you are, I would be pretty happy.
