How can you learn to trust when one of the most important people in your life, your father, lied to you pretty much all the time while growing up?
Sandra Carmichael comes home after being dumped over the phone by her boyfriend to find a handsome stranger waiting for her 19 year old brother under suspicious circumstances. Being very protective of her brother she asks questions but the handsome man, AKA, Nick Tomaras evaded them like the plague, worrying Sandra and making her think that her brother is up to no good.
Nick Tomaras is an undercover cop who is trying to bust a big ring of a new designer drug with the help of Sandra's brother. Attracted to Sandra from the get go he remains mysterious through various encounters until violence comes knocking on Sandra's door and he moves her and her brother to his house in order to be able to protect them better. That's when relationships start changing and certain questions will be answered. Will Sandra learn to trust Nick wholeheartedly? Will Nick be the one to help Sandra break all patterns or will his job interfere in their relationship? Will Nick be able to keep Sandra and her brother safe from the danger closing in?
I loved this story, once I started reading I was hooked and I just couldn't stop. To most Sandra might sound a bit needy, perhaps even desperate at the beginning of the book, but when you've been through life with everyone you love abandoning you and leaving you, how are you suppose to react when your current boyfriend dumps you as well? Nick is not only handsome but a bit of an alpha male, who will do whatever it takes to protect the people he cares about.
There is beauty in the relationship between Sandra and Nick, they both have their sets of problems but they understand and support each other, you see their growing up into their relationship and how both of them, specially Sandra, starts to accept that she's not alone and that there's a man that might finally be the one to help her change her ways.
You'll find a little suspense, mixed with some sense of humor, and definitely a few sexy times for good measure throughout the book. Stephanie did a fantastic job developing the story, the writing is flawless and this is definitely the kind of tale that will keep the reader's interest from beginning to end.
Looking forward to the next installment of this series.
