oppressive relationship embarks on a desperate quest to escape. However her refuge is to return to the home
she despised and left in the dust years before.
Only her childhood journal and the family who raised her, can guide her

and left her with the stinging consequences she now must face.
As vivid memories
of a tragedy that cost her both parents, come flooding back, Jamie discovers a
truth that she kept locked away - something only she knows about the night they

review
King Captures
more than loving in difficult situations in Diamond Road. She touches a responsive nerve that echoes
realistically the emotional/physical abuse, estrangement, and faith her
characters experience as they connect with one another. You will love the unexpected twists,
disappointments, and joys on this journey beginning with the bolt of action on
page one!” pm terrell ~ internationally

Excerpt
From Chapter 4
When Josh got in the house, he stopped in the kitchen and
got a glass of water. The beer he had at the bon fire made him thirsty for pure
cold water. He didn't have to go that way to get upstairs but he took two steps
into the den and flipped the lights on. There on a console table were photos
from years ago of him on the bank at Link's house. He still couldn't believe
that the little girl standing beside him had so little respect for Link that
she didn't even show up to his funeral.
"Damn" he said out loud. "Why did Leslie flip
her hair like that. I could have gone all day without thinking about you
Jamie."
He reached down and pulled a couple photo albums from the
shelf below and headed to the dining room table to spend a few hours replaying
the past in his head as he looked over the pictures.
In the morning, Josh woke up at the usual 5:30 am and headed
out to take care of some things around the farm that couldn't wait until after
breakfast. When he was in the barn getting some keys, he saw another reminder
of Jamie, as if last night hadn't brought her back to occupy his mind totally.
Normally seeing the saddle he had made for her sixteenth birthday wouldn't
bother him. Hell he passed it every stinking day but today, after having spent
two hours the night before looking over their childhood and thinking about all
of the shit she had survived, he was stuck. He felt completely paralyzed. He
thought back on that day and how much planning he put into giving it to her.
His
dad and Link had inspected every inch of the work and said Josh had definitely
done a great job.
Link
said, "Son, having a saddle that someone personalized for you is a gift
that not every sixteen year old would appreciate. But I know that Jamie wanted
this. She had been talking about it and trying to convince me to make her one
for over a year. When you told me how much you wanted to learn tannery I
figured it had something to do with you being the one to give Jamie everything
she wanted. I used to worry that you two had been raised too much as siblings,
but I see now that is not how you feel about her."
Josh
looked up at his father and his other hero, Link with a sheepish look on his
face that immediately turned to quasi teenage anger. His feelings for Jamie
really had become apparent in the last several months. Instead of hanging out
together all of the time like they had every year of their lives, they both had
grown so much over the last four years, they really had somewhat grown apart.
"Link,
I swear you can't keep a secret." Josh stormed off, embarrassed in front
of his father about his now exposed true feelings for Jamie.
Mitch,
Josh's father hollered after him and said, "Come back here now son."
Josh
knew that the day would be entirely trashed if he kept walking because his dad
was not someone you kept waiting.
When
he approached, he said, "Dad..." as he attempted to explain and his
father cut him off by holding up his hand. "Josh this is the only time I
am ever going to say this to you so listen up. You did not come into this world
as family with Jamie. Life made her your family and she is not your sister.
Your mother and I have always known that your relationship with Jamie was much
more than friends. Hell we knew it before she was left with nothing, and Link
took her in. Yes, you spent your growing up years together, but you would have
done that anyway if nothing had ever happened to her. Have you stopped to
realize that? So don't ever worry what any of us will think about this. You
only need to worry about what Jamie thinks of it." He turned and looked at
Link, winked and said, "Link, I think she will love it, don't you?"
Link
nodded in agreement, and said, "Josh I agree one hundred percent with
everything your dad just said, especially the part about her loving it. Damn if
I know what she’ll talk to me about now that she's finally got this."
