Perfect for fans of Alice Clayton and Emma Chase, Lauren Layne’s Oxford series heats up in this story of forbidden desire as a brooding jock hoping for a comeback falls for a woman who’s strictly off-limits.

A year ago, Jackson Burke was married to the love of his life and playing quarterback for the Texas Redhawks. Now he’s retired, courtesy of the car accident that ruined his career—and single, after a nasty scandal torpedoed his marriage. Just as he’s starting to get used to his new life as a health and fitness columnist forOxford magazine, his unpredictable ex shows up on his doorstep in Manhattan. Jackson should be thrilled. But he can’t stop thinking about the one person who’s always been there for him, the one girl he could never have: her younger sister.

Mollie Carrington can’t say no to Madison. After all, her older sister practically raised her. So when Madison begs for help in winning her ex-husband back, Mollie’s just glad she got over her own crush on Jackson ages ago—or so she thought. Because as Mollie reconnects with Jackson, she quickly forgets all her reasons to stay loyal to her sister. Tempted by Jackson’s mellow drawl and cowboy good looks, Mollie is sick and tired of coming in second place. But she can’t win if she doesn’t play the game.

Review

The premise of this book got my attention. This was "sort" of a love triangle but not really.
Molly met Jackson at his wedding to his sister, she falls in love with him and there's nothing she can do to avoid that, but obviously he's off limits.
Fast forward seven years and they meet again, she's looking for an out of her apartment and her roommate and Jackson offers her his place until she finds something better. The plus side of all this is that he's no longer married to her sister and Molly can finally get her chance with him.
Her sister, oh boy! If there was ever a character I really wanted to have a few words with, is this woman. Madison is selfish, she has one concern in life and that is herself, giving little to no attention to the people around her, to the people that really count. And when she starts realizing that her sister's relationship with Jackson is important to both of them, she wants in and she wants to go back to the way it used to be with him.
I truly despise Madison, the way she acted towards her sibling at times treating her like she was less than her was despicable. And Molly had a heart of gold, she wanted so bad to have her sister's love and acceptance until she starts realizing the kind of woman she was and starts changing her views and putting herself first. I loved Jackson, he was sweet, caring, and although he seemed a bit bitter at times, after meeting his ex and all she did you could understand why.
The author did a fantastic job keeping the story entertaining while maneuvering the characters through their journey. This is the first book I read by this author and it will definitely won't be the last.
