Release Day #review: Ryker by Sawyer Bennett

Carolina Cold Fury Series
Book 4

Synopsis

The rugged men of the Carolina Cold Fury hockey team are winning hearts once again in another scorching novel from New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett.

The stakes have never been higher for Carolina Cold Fury goalie Ryker Evans. With his contract running out, he’s got a year left to prove he’s still at the top of his game. And since his wife left him, Ryker has been balancing life as a pro-hockey star and a single parent to two daughters. Management is waiting for him to screw up. The fans are ready to pounce. Everybody’s taking dirty shots—except for the fiery redhead whose faith in Ryker gives him a fresh start.

As the league’s only female general manager, Gray Brannon has learned not to mix business with pleasure. And yet even this tough, talented career woman can’t help breaking her own rules as she gives Ryker everything she’s got. She hopes their hot streak will last forever, but with Ryker’s conniving ex plotting to reclaim her man, the pressure’s on Gray to step up and save a tender new love before it’s too late.

Review

A true alpha male is the one that put the needs of others before his own, to me, that is what Ryker is.
In this new installment of the Cold Fury Hockey Series we meet  Ryker "The Wall" Evans, goalie for the Fury, and devoted single father of two precocious little girls.
Gray Brannon steps up as the GM for the hockey team, and while some of the guys have their doubts about her role in the organization, she's there to prove them all wrong and show them that a woman can do as good a job as a man can.
This has to be my favorite book of this series, and what makes this book excel above the other ones to me, is most definitely the characters.
Gray is a brilliant business woman, who is willing to fight tooth and nail for her dreams, even when we see her doubt herself at times, she respects her own abilities enough to get herself out of the funk and keep going. Throughout the story we see that part of that confidence she exudes is due to the love and support her father has always giving her, their relationship is one to be admired.
Even though Ryker is passionate about the sport he plays, his priorities are his girl, I just love how a big, strong man can show his vulnerability without insecurities. The way he treats Gray and the sacrifices he is willing to make in order for her to succeed at her career are just out of this world selfless and plain hot. The secrecy Gray and Ryker's affair gives the story more of a forbidden touch, which I truly liked. There is absolutely no doubt of the sensuality and rawness of their encounters, something that is not an easy thing to communicate at times when reading a book.
Bennett created two mature characters who will go to war for each other in order to see the other one achieve happiness. It's always good to see the rest of the boys to make an appearance and contribute to the story with some humor.
The story flows beautifully from beginning to end, not unnecessary drama or angst, just perfection!
