Excerpt 5 from Heri Apparent by V.L. Locey

“Ivan said I’d find you in here,” he said, filling the doorway. I glanced around the goalie coach’s sparse office. “Listen, about last night…”
I lifted a hand. He clamped his lips tight. “It’s okay,” I said. “I just want you to know I’m not here to take your job."
Cam stepped into the room, nodded at a knot of players heading to the weight room, then closed the door after they passed. I kicked a rolling chair out for him. He smiled uncomfortably before sitting down.
“Yes, you are, and that’s okay.” I started to argue. It was he who silenced me this time with a raised palm. “You say you’re not, and maybe in your heart you think you’re not, but on some deep, competitive level, you are. When you hit that ice last night, and the crowd was on its feet, tell me you didn’t fantasize about skating over to the net.”
I averted my eyes. Cam chuckled sadly.
“Been there and done that." I found myself drawn to look at him. There was something about him. The way his eyes turned up at the corners, or the laugh lines, or maybe even the strands of silver that were threaded through the cocoa brown. Hell, maybe it was his full bottom lip or the sandalwood cologne he wore. Who knows? “I didn’t mean to get on you like that, though. I watched your tapes last night. You’re good, Jacobi, damned good. Maybe Plante good.”
I sat in that cheap office chair with my mouth open. Cam reached out to playfully close it. His fingers were warm. I so wanted them to stray over my cheek but they didn’t. He simply shut my mouth then smiled while placing his hands to his thighs.

I LOVE hockey, I LOVE stories about hockey and hockey players, and unfortunately a lot of people I loved have passed away due to that nasty disease that is cancer, some had survived and some are battling it right now, so this book has a lot of meaning to me.

I started reading Toni's story (who I've read before and adore) Tangled in the Laces and I liked it, but the more I got into the story the more I started getting into the characters and their background. By the time I finished it was about 4am and I was a mess. I messaged Toni on Facebook bawling my eyes out. My heart truly hurt after reading her story and I can't wait until the follow up.
Not all of the stories are like Toni's.
Hooking Hannah by the Carr mother/daughter duo is a little more upbeat story and very sweet.
Crashing the Boards by Jami Davenport I loved, and it shows you that love can find you anywhere when you least expected.
Taking a Shot by Catherine Gayle, wow. All I can say is, get those Kleenex ready again. If you thought you were done with them after Tangled in the Laces, you will need them again here. Beautiful, heartbreaking story.
Jaymee Jacobs' A Valuable Trade is another fun, flirty story that got me out of the funk I was in. I adored George's personality and way to see life.
Heir Apparent by V.L. Locey is a story about accepting who you are. I loved how Jacobi helped Cam to come out of his shell, accepting and loving who he really was. Beautifully written story.
Bianca Sommerland's Blind Pass is all about knowing when to take chances and going for what you want. Loved Madeline's protective instinct.
And in Captain, My Captain by Nikki Worrell you will find a real gentleman and another opportunity to take a chance in life.
I was familiar with some of these talented authors and not with others, but none of them disappointed me, and since reading this I went and did some major damage on Amazon buying their books.
Each novella can be read as standalone but they're also are part of ongoing series.
All I ask is that you give these talented ladies a chance to get their work recognized, but most importantly, buy this book and contribute to this amazing cause. Hopefully by all of us making a small contribution, one day we'll be able to get rid of this terrible disease.
