INTRODUCING
RUSHING THE GOAL
Part of Toni Aleo’s Bellevue Bullies Series, it’s the Sinclair brothers’ big sister’s turn to find love in the next installment of the New York Times and USA Today best-selling series, the Assassins.
Lucy Sinclair was no stranger to pain.
She grew up with three younger brothers, met a bad boy, got pregnant by him, married him, and then suffered through a nasty divorce from him. Pain. That was pain. To top it off, she even had to go through the heartbreaking divorce of her parents. Through it all, she survived. All she cared about was making sure her daughter was happy and taken care of. Despite an ex-husband hell-bent on ruining her life, she fought to overcome. She’s gotten to the point that she’s okay with being just okay. She never cared about herself because she never had the time. It was Angie and only Angie she focused on, but that all changed when Benji Paxton offered to help her daughter on the ice.
Benji knew the moment he saw Lucy, he’d never be the same. Especially when she came with the bundle of crazy that was her daughter. His heart wasn’t ready for them. After years spent sobering up and finding who he was without the alcohol, he never forgot he was being punished for not appreciating the love he had when he was younger. Because of his past, he had gotten used to being alone, a recluse, but even he had to admit it was getting old. He was lonely. Hockey wasn’t enough anymore. He wanted a family; he wanted his true love, and Lucy and Angie were just that.
Benji and Lucy were just two lost souls.
Floating through life with no purpose.
But finding each other gave them direction, a chance at a future.

Review
Perhaps because I could relate to the heroine of this book, or maybe because I loved Benji and Angie from the get go, but I think this is one of Toni's best books to date if not the best.
Lucy is strong, a fighter, a marvelous mother, daughter and sister, but even the strongest of them all need a little help from time to time, a need to feel love and accepted just the way they are.
Enter Benji, a stand up guy, a talented hockey player and someone who is living with the pain of the loss he suffered a few years back. He's intense and supportive and maybe just what Lucy has been missing and needs in her life. That is if she lets him in.
I adored Lucy, even though some people might not relate to her, I think she's one of the best heroines Toni has ever written. She puts up a front that she has everything figured out, but inside she's falling apart little by little, the only thing that keeps her going day in and day out is little Angie. And on top of all the daily struggles in her life, her ex, who's a egotistical ass and only has his best interest at heart instead of that of his daughter, is making her life a living hell. So Angie just plugs along, trying to survive in a world that only seems to bring her down. Benji is a gentle soul, the guilt he carries around has led him to live a solitary life, but once he meets Lucy, something awakens in him and he starts realizing that perhaps he needs to forgive himself and start living again as well as help Lucy and Angie to find true happiness.
Toni did a fantastic job of building these characters and their relationship, we see little by little how walls start crumbling down and how Lucy starts blooming into the confident, beautiful person that was inside her all along, all thanks to Benji.
And as much as you will love the main and secondary characters you will despise Lucy's ex. One thing about Toni's books that always gets my blood boiling is the fact that she writes fantastic antagonist characters, in this case Rick, Lucy's ex. He's the bastard you want to take a baseball bat to, a sorry excuse for a father, for a man. But not story will be complete without the bad boy/girl, and Rick is definitely that and more here.
This is a story full of heart, of forgiveness, of love. Inspiring characters that will give you hope and show you that even in the darkest of hours there may be a light, in the form of another human being, that you don't have to do it all alone to show the world your strength, that by letting someone help you and support you you might become the strongest you will ever be.
Congratulations on a superb job, Toni.
