To say that this story messed with my heart is a huge understatement.
It is beautifully well written, this author knows how to get to your soul with her words and how to deliver a story full of unbelievable feelings.
This is the journey of two broken people, at times with similar circumstances but with very different backgrounds.
Logan's back story affected me the most, a young man with so much potential, with no support from his so called parents, no financial possibilities to get out of the hole he was in, and with the weight and guilt for a mother who was too affected by other things to really care about her son. His only constant and salvation was Alyssa.
Alyssa had the financial stability and the means to do what she really wanted to accomplished, but her family life was in disarray. An absent father, an overly critical mother, and a sister who was there when she needed her most of the time but not really present.
Logan and Alyssa formed an unlikely friendship, they discovered love, they lived through each other's eyes, they were each other's everything, until tragedy struck.
This is a heart wrenching story, at times I felt overwhelmed with the sorrow I felt for these two people, at times I had to stop, take a little break and come back to reading at later time. It affected me deeply, I keep asking myself how could parents be so cruel to their children, how could they treat them the way these people did to their kids. It happens every single day around the world, that's a fact, but it is something that I can't wrap my head around.
I loved their flaws, their rawness, the purity of the love they felt for one another, their resilience.
There is not a part of this book that didn't have an unforgettable message, a deep meaning, a speck of hope.
If you loved The Air He Breathes, you will fall head over heels in love with this second book of this series. These books can be read as standalones.
