Review

Sometimes is hard to find the words to let the world know how much you loved a book and how profoundly it affected you. This is one of those times. Ms. Proby wrote a beautiful character that I could totally relate to making me love the story even more.

Mia is sassy, in control of her life, and most definitely her kitchen, she has friends who she loves and love her right back, but behind the self assure woman she's hiding insecurities and a secret she's been carrying for ten long years. When an opportunity to star on a cooking show comes to her she decides to take it, even if that opportunity brings her past to her present in the form of Camden Sawyer.

I loved this story so much. I loved Camden and the soul lifting love he had for Mia, for her determination to be a good chef, for her heart, for making her feel like she's the most beautiful girl in the world even when she's not what society qualifies as a perfect stereotype when it comes to a woman. And Mia, this woman and her determination to show those who come in contact with her how driven she is, is my role model. While some things in her life are like a ghost that keeps coming back, she keeps putting one foot in front of the other and showing the world how strong she really is.

Thank you, Ms. Proby. Thank you for a captivating story I couldn't put down, thank you for imperfect characters we could all look to and learn from, thank you for finishing this beautiful series with a perfect ending. But most of all, THANK YOU for reinforcing to the world that we all are beautiful and worthy of love no matter our size.

In the summer of 2012, the self-publishing scene was new and thriving, and Kristen had one goal: to publish just one book. It was something she longed to cross off of her bucket list.
Not only did she publish one book, she’s since published close to thirty titles, many of which have hit the USA Today, New York Times and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers lists. She continues to self publish, best known for her With Me In Seattle and Boudreaux series, and is also proud to work with William Morrow, a division of HarperCollins, with the Fusion Series.

His wide, warm palm grazed her lower back as they wove their way through the tables to the exit. They crossed over the water garden in silence, slowing as they reached a fork in the path.
“Which way?” Deacon asked. “I’ll walk you back.”
“That’s sweet, but you really don’t have to. It’s a five-star resort, not downtown Los Angeles.”
Deacon kept walking. “True. But you know, I took you to dinner and all.”
She arched a brow at him. “It’s also an all-inclusive resort. Maybe I took you.”
“Maybe you did.”
He flashed her that slightly lopsided grin that hit her right in the chest. She conceded to the walk, and together, they followed the brick path. The resort was dark, but lights along the sidewalk lit the path and shined up the skinny gray trunks of the swaying palms. It was quiet, and when they didn’t pass even one other person, she was glad he was walking her back.
She slowed as they came to the breezeway leading to her building and pointed up the steps to the second floor. “I’m up there, so…”
Deacon started up the steps. “I’ll walk you to the door. I’m funny like that.”
She probably should have said no, insisted that she could make it to her door on her own. Because of course she could. But she didn’t insist, just followed enormously glad she’d removed the HONEYMOON banner from her door.
They reached her room, and she turned to face him. Just the two of them now, up here, alone at her door. She felt a slight buzzing in her head that had nothing to do with alcohol.
“Well, Clare of the here and now.”
She rolled her eyes at the reminder of her earlier word-vomit ramble. “It was nice to meet you.” She stuck out her hand, hoping it wasn’t sweaty.
“It was nice to meet you, too.”
It didn’t feel like a simple handshake as he wrapped his fingers around hers. “I had fun tonight. You turned what might have been a horrible night into something surprisingly nice.”
“I’m glad.”
“Thank you for catching me and saving my top and for dinner and talking and…” And maybe she could stoptalking.
“You’re welcome.”
A frog gave a low croak, and another answered, but she figured the pounding of her heart was louder.
The buzzing in her head grew louder, and she felt dizzy from looking into his eyes and staring at his lips because she wanted him to kiss her. She wanted to feel those smooth, firm lips on hers, to taste him and feel his arms around her.I'm losing my mind.
“You’re beautiful,” he said. “I’ve been wanting to say that all night.” He lifted his hand and lightly brushed his thumb over her cheek.
Then he leaned in, and she moved. Just…moved. In and up, her fingers twisting in the front of his shirt. She was just falling into the taste of him, just getting that warm, tingling flood of a first kiss when her brain fully registered that he’d been leaning in to kiss her cheek
“I’m sorry.” She swallowed hard, felt a stinging heat flooding into her cheeks, and wished desperately to disappear. Deacon was staring at her in complete confusion. That made two of them. “I’m… really sorry.”
She spun to her door. A stiff wind sang through the open-air hallway, slapping her hair across her eyes. How she got her key in the lock, she had no idea. Mumbling one more apology over her shoulder, she opened the door and closed it behind her. She stood, heart pounding in mortification, her lips buzzing.
The champagne glasses and fruit and cheese tray had been cleared. The bed had been turned back, and the damn swans were back, nestled in the center of the bed and kissing right on their terrycloth lips.

Review

Claudia Connor has this ability to write stories that are completely swoon worthy, Love at Last is another one of them.

Clare and Deacon meet in a somewhat unconventional way. Clare was "celebrating" her honeymoon without her groom who left her and told her he was in love with someone else. Deacon was in paradise are a vet conference. They got tangled up, literally, and sparks flew. Clare promised herself no more relationships, a happy ending wasn't in the horizon for her, but could sexy veterinarian Deacon change Clare's mind?

This is a story of insta love, usually not one of my favorite things to read but Claudia's storytelling convinced me that it could definitely happen to some people. I'm a complete and absolute sucker for stories with single parents as characters and Deacon is such a sweet, dedicated father to his twins, I loved that so much. I also liked the fact that Clare really warmed up to the girls and a very tender relationship that started between them.

Love at Last is sweet, low on angst, sexy and simply adorable. It's another beautiful story by this author who has become one of my favorites. By the way, I'd love to see Jess and Connor's story next. Hint, hint ;-)

About QUIT YOUR PITCHIN'

What’s wrong with my butt? She means those words to be directed toward the woman beside her, not him. But he can’t stop himself from answering. Not when her ass is the most magnificent thing he’s seen in his life. Apparently, answering her with ‘not a damn thing’ wasn’t what she was expecting. She likely wasn’t expecting the baseball she took to the face at his next at bat, either. All it takes is one ill-fated foul ball, and George Hoffman, Lumberjacks center fielder, falls head over heels in love with Wrigley Field—and yes, that is her real name. From that point forward, George and Wrigley fall into a fast whirlwind love that ends with them eloping to Vegas. And he has his potty mouth, titty bar owning, pain in the ass grandmother to thank for it. Not that he’s complaining or anything. Who wouldn’t want to be married to a woman that made his heart race like he was in the final game of the World Series? The only problem is trying to convince her of that.

The Hardest Fall
an all new tantalizing contemporary romance by Ella Maise is NOW LIVE!

The Hardest Fall Cover

 Blurb

The first time you meet someone, you make eye contact. You smile, say hello. Should be simple, if you’re anyone but me. The first time I met Dylan Reed, I found myself making eye contact with a different part of his body. You see, I’m very good at being shy, not to mention extremely well-versed in rambling nonsense and, unfortunately, rather highly skilled at making a fool of myself in front of a guy I’m attracted to.
At the time, I knew nothing about him and thought none of what I said would matter since I’d never speak to him again. Turns out, I was very wrong. He was the star wide receiver of the football team, one of the few players expected to make it into the NFL, and I ended up seeing him all over campus.
I might have also propositioned him, run away from him, attacked him with a cooking utensil…and…uh, maybe I shouldn’t tell you all of it. It’s pretty normal stuff, things you’d expect…from me. Eventually, the time came when I couldn’t hide anymore—not that he’d have let me even if I tried.
Before now, he never knew I was secretly watching him. Now that we see each other every day, he knows when I have a hard time looking away. It doesn’t help that I’m not the most subtle person in the world either.
He smiles at me and tells me he finds me fascinating because of my quirks. I can’t even tell him that I think my heart beats differently whenever he’s around.
He thinks we’re going to be best friends. I think I have a big thing for him, and the more I get to know him, the more I don’t care that I’m not allowed to be his friend, let alone fall for him.
The thing is, that’s exactly what I’m doing—what we’re doing, I think.
Falling.
Hard.

Excerpt

I stopped speaking when Dylan’s gloved hand—his huge gloved hand—cupped my cheek and gently tilted my face up. The world around me slowed down, and I stood still. I swear to you, I watched his eyes roam my face in slow motion.
“I like having your eyes on me, Zoe.”
I managed to force a nervous smile. His thumb moved on my cheek, rendering me…basically completely helpless.
Forgetting myself, forgetting where we were, I whispered, “I like watching you.”
His tongue peeked out and touched his lower lip. “I know.”
Oh, Dylan, why did you do that?
“I meant I like watching you—liked watching you play tonight. I didn’t mean it to sound like I like watching you when you’re not playing. I definitely wouldn’t watch you if you were just standing there, or I don’t know…I wouldn’t watch you when you’re working out, and I would never watch you if you were—”
“You know why I like watching you?”
The question shut me up pretty quickly, which was probably for the best; who knew what else I would spew out.
“Because I can’t take my eyes away from you. Everything else…it all disappears, and…”
And… And…
“And?”
I tried my best not to look eager for his answer—or let’s say not too eager, because there was no way he couldn’t tell I was very interested and invested in hearing what he was about to say.
He let out a heavy breath and decided not to finish that particular sentence. I’d seen it in his eyes, a slight change, there and gone.
Goddammit!

Review

This is my first book by this author and I'm happy to say it was a good experience.

This is a slow burn romance story between two college students, Dylan Reed and Zoe Clarke. They meet in a very unorthodox manner, but she makes a good impression on Dylan. She wants to know more about her but he doesn't even know her name. The second time they meet is a bit of a mess but he's completely smitten with this mysterious girl. The third time leads to a beautiful friendship and the start of a romantic relationship. While Dylan thinks he has it all figured out a storm has been brewing in Zoe's life for a few years now and the aftermath of that storm will be what decides if their relationship crashes and burn or if it will soar.

I LOVED Dylan, he is a football player and most people would think he's a womanizer and full of himself, but he is completely the opposite, he is an honest to goodness great guy dedicated to his school, his career as a football player and his family. Zoe was hit and miss for me, they were aspects of her that I adored and admired, the love she had for her father, her honest feelings she had for her mother, the dedication she showed towards her friends, on the other hand, the being so extremely shy just got on my nerves a little bit, being so indecisive and letting someone manipulating her for the course of three years was a bit unnerving to me.

Like I said before this is a slow burning kind of romance, but the beginning of the story was slower than usual for me. That said, once it got going I really enjoyed the relationship between Dylan and Zoe. It's a very sweet, tender and captivating story. The author did a great job with the twists she included in the story and this made the book more attractive to me.

I really hope Ella gives the rest of the characters (KayKay, Jared, JP) their own stories, they were secondary characters that infused a lot of heart and a dose of reality to Zoe and Dylan's journey.

About Ella

I’m a big dreamer. And that’s how it all started for me, really. Reading and dreaming. I love nothing more than to escape real life to find those very few magical moments in a book. I love how it has the power of stealing your worries away, putting a smile on your face even when smiling is the last thing on your mind. Crushing on fictional characters is also another bonus. Through my words, if I can manage to make even one-person smile, it means I’ve done my job well.
Writing became my world and I can’t imagine myself doing anything other than creating new characters and telling their stories. You know how some things simply makes your heart burst with happiness? A really good book, a puppy, hugging someone you’ve been missing like crazy? That’s what writing does to me. And all the hard work, all the sleepless nights, all the anxiety that comes with publishing…everything is worth it at the end.
