Synopsis
Hockey star Alexander Crossman has a
reputation as a cold-hearted player on and off the rink. Pushed into the sport
by an alcoholic father, Alex isn’t afraid to give fans the proverbial middle
finger, relishing his role as the MVP they love to hate. Management, however,
isn’t so amused. Now Alex has a choice: fix his public image through community
service or ride the bench. But Alex refuses to be molded into the Carolina Cold
Fury poster boy . . . not even by a tempting redhead with killer curves. As a social worker, Sutton Price is accustomed to difficult people—like Alex, who’s been assigned to help her create a drug-abuse awareness program for at-risk youth as part of the team’s effort to clean up his image. What she doesn’t expect is the arrogant smirk from his perfect lips to stir her most heated fantasies. But Sutton isn’t one to cross professional boundaries—and besides, Alex doesn’t do relationships . . . or does he? The more she sees behind Alex’s bad-boy façade, the more Sutton craves the man she uncovers.

Review
Alexander Crossman is bitter, angry and one of the most ungrateful and brilliant hockey players the game and the fans have ever seen. And let's not even talk about his bedroom manners.Growing up with an alcoholic, controlling father Alex learned from very young to hate the game that to this date, has provided a nice lifestyle for him and his father as well.
Due to his foul attitude the Cold Fury management decides that Alex needs a bit of a public image make over and sends him to be a spoke person for an anti drug campaign.
Sutton Price is a recent college graduate and a counselor at the
Wake County Drug Crisis Center. She had a rough childhood but thanks to her mother's efforts, Sutton was able to overcome all the challenges and raise above them.
When they first meet, all Alex can think is getting Sutton in his bed and have his way with her, what he doesn't know is that she is not that easily impressionable even though she finds him incredibly attractive.
While working together and their relationship goes from perfect strangers to friendship to lovers, we see how Alex starts changing his views and starts caring more about the people around him, Sutton's influence on him is a very positive and refreshing one.
If I'm honest, I hated Alex at the beginning. I can't stand people who treat others like dirt and think they can get away with it. But as you start to know the man behind the mask he lets everyone see, you begin to understand how the circumstances that he experienced throughout his life influenced the man he became. It was heartbreaking to find out how his father treated him, taking away his childhood and innocence to make his son in the player he never was.
The story is told in dual POV's. The characters from the main two to the secondary ones are well planned out and very likeable. I love that Sawyer made Sutton a very strong woman who could hold her own. Sutton was Alex's match made in heaven, the more he pushed, the stronger she stood for him and with him.
Sexy, romantic, with a touch of assholiness on the side.
Five deserving stars. Now please give me Garrett and let the Bromance between Alex and Garrett begin ;-)
USA Today Best-Selling author, Sawyer Bennett, is a snarky southern woman and reformed trial lawyer who decided to finally start putting on paper all of the stories that were floating in her head. She is married to a mobster (well, a market researcher) and they have two big, furry dogs who hog the bed. Sawyer would like to report she doesn’t have many weaknesses but can be bribed with a nominal amount of milk chocolate.
